This topic describes the different methods for creating a dependent drop down.
The image below illustrates a Sales Forecast form where the Average Price is dependent of the Price Strategy:
To create a dependent drop-down list, the designer needs to first create a worksheet with the right settings. For more information, see LISTDEPCOL.

A drop-down list can be dependent on either Column or Named Area.
Create a Drop-Down List Dependent on Column
This method is useful when the lists are created in the input rows of the template and if the dependency is related to another column in the same row.
What to do:
- Insert and define which column in the selected worksheet (NOT column headings) is dependent on another column in the template.
- Select a Column that is tagged with a name in the LISTDEPCOL parameters in the template.
Create a Drop-Down List Dependent on Named Area
This method is useful when the list is given or specified and the dependency is not necessarily related to another column in the same row.
What to do:
- Insert and define which column in the selected worksheet is dependent on another Named Area in the template.
- Select Named Area in the list.
Note: Use Name Manager to create Named Areas.
